How to access Hikvision DVR/NVR from a web browser – A few days ago, I received a call from a customer complaining that their Hikvision DVR wouldn’t open in their app. After further discussion, the problem was that the customer had removed the device from the Hik-Connect app. Since the customer was out of town, I visited the location to inspect the system. When I arrived, I found that the DVR was not connected to the monitor. However, I found a way to open it using a web browser.
This guide of mine will explain to you in detail how to access Hikvision DVR from a web browser.
Can You Access a Hikvision DVR/NVR Using a Web Browser?
The short answer is yes.
By accessing the Hikvision DVR through a web browser, you can perform many of the same settings that you would normally do using a monitor. In this case, I’m accessing the Hikvision DVR through a web browser to view the verification code needed to add the device to the app.
Things You Need to Access Hikvision DVR/NVR From a Web Browser
If you follow this guide, here’s what I need to prepare to access the Hikvision DVR/NVR using a web browser. Since I didn’t have my laptop with me, I accessed it using a web browser on my phone.
- Mobile with web browser (Chrome App)
- I connected the phone to the local network using Wi-Fi.
- DVR username and password
- DVR IP Address
The good news is, because the Hikvision and HiLook systems are the same, this article also serves as a guide to accessing the HiLook DVR from a web browser.
Steps to Access a Hikvision DVR/NVR Through a Web Browser
First of all, I need to know the IP address so I can open the Hikvision DVR/NVR via a web browser.
The method I used to find the IP address of my HIkvision DVR/NVR was to use the Hik-Partner Pro app. If you don’t have this app, you can open your router settings to see the IP address. The problem is, opening the router settings also requires a password. Therefore, I prefer using the Hik-Partner Pro app. Within the app, there’s a SADP Tool menu that can find the DVR’s IP address directly.
Once you know the DVR’s IP address, open a web browser (Chrome). Type the IP address into the search bar. For example, the IP address I got was 192.192.168.1.14. The DVR login page will then appear in your web browser.

Enter your DVR username and password to log in.

And this is what the Hikvision DVR/NVR dashboard page looks like when opened using a web browser.

You can open settings by selecting the Configuration menu.
To view the Hikvision DVR/NVR verification code, go to Network > Advanced Settings > Platform Access. This will display the verification code or encryption password.

Common Problems and Solutions for Hikvision DVR/NVR Not Opening in Web Browser
In the experiments I conducted, there were several routers that blocked access to the IP addresses of connected devices.
If I encounter this issue, I add a switch. The switch is then connected to the ISP’s router on-site, and then from there, the DVR/NVR is connected. This usually resolves the issue immediately. That’s why, as a professional camera technician, I always carry a switch. Other issues are often caused by entering the wrong IP address in a web browser. So, make sure you’re getting the correct IP address.
Another issue is the no live view of the Hikvision camera in a web browser. You can resolve this by downgrading or updating the Hikvision DVR/NVR firmware.
Final Thoughts
Accessing Hikvision DVR/NVR devices through a web browser saves me a lot of time when the customer is away and there’s no monitor connected to the system. Instead of manually unlocking the device or carrying additional equipment, I can simply connect to the same network and manage everything directly from my phone. This method is especially useful for security camera technicians performing Hikvision DVR/NVR inspections in locations where no monitors are available.
I hope this guide I shared is useful and if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section.

Interesting however the method you have shown is to access hik-connect. I don’t use hik-connect. I should have looked at your images more carefully before I went to the bother of trying to access in this manner. I’ve been searching for a way to access from my Apple desktop via Safari but Apple does not allow the webComponent required for images. Thanks anyway, I’m still searching.
Yes, there’s no webComponent for Safari. You can try using Edge or Chrome browsers.
