SmartPSS Lite cannot be opened MSVCP140.dll error – After hundreds of installations of Smart PSS Lite software on my PC, this is the first time I’ve encountered an issue where the software won’t open. Initially, I was unsure how to fix the problem. However, after searching for information, I managed to resolve it. I’m writing this article to help you if you encounter the same problem I encountered.

What Is the MSVCP140.dll Error in SmartPSS Lite?
The MSVCP140.dll file is part of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package. SmartPSS Lite relies on this component to run properly. Upon inspection, we discovered that the customer’s computer did not have Microsoft Visual C++ installed.
If this file is missing, corrupted, or incompatible, Windows may display a message such as:
- MSVCP140.dll was not found
- The program can’t start because MSVCP140.dll is missing
- SmartPSS Lite cannot be opened
- SmartPSS Lite failed to launch
How I Fixed the SmartPSS Lite MSVCP140.dll Not Found Error
I’ve read in other articles that there are many methods for fixing SmartPSS not opening due to the MSVCP140.dll error. However, if you don’t want to waste your time, you can read my guide, as it’s quicker and has proven to work.
Follow the methods below step by step.
Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
Since the error is only MSVCP140.dll, I’ll immediately install Microsoft Visual C++ software to resolve this issue. For your information, the customer’s computer is currently running Windows 11.
Download
Step 1 – First, please open this link via a web browser to download the Microsoft Visual C++ file.
Step 2 – Select the language is English and tap the Download button.
Step 3 – Download the Microsoft Visual C++ file according to your Windows architecture. Tap Download. The download will start automatically, so please wait until it’s complete.
Install
Step 1 – Now open the Download folder on your computer and double-click on the downloaded Microsoft Visual C++ file.
Step 2 – Check I Agree to the license terms and conditions and tap Install.
The installation process will then run automatically. Please wait for it to complete. Afterward, you can check the installed Microsoft Visual C++ software in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

It shows I have two Microsoft Visual C++ programs installed. I first installed the 2013 version, but SmartPSS Lite still wouldn’t open. After installing the 2015 version, the SmartPSS Lite application finally opened.
Final Thoughts
The SmartPSS Lite MSVCP140.dll error usually appears when your computer is missing Microsoft Visual C++ components, has corrupted system files, or does not have the required Visual C++ package installed. Fortunately, I resolved this issue in a few minutes by installing the necessary Microsoft Visual C++.
