Seagate SkyHawk 2TB surveillance HDD price & specs – The HDD is a crucial component of a security camera system. It operates 24/7, continuously writing and reading video from the camera. Therefore, the quality of the HDD used will impact the camera’s recording performance. Many beginners don’t understand that a security camera HDD is different from a computer HDD. A computer HDD, when installed in a camera recorder, will often not last long.
In this article, I will review the 2TB Seagate SkyHawk HDD specifically for security cameras and the one I use most often.
Why Choose the Seagate SkyHawk 2TB HDD?
The 2TB HDD size is the most used when I install security cameras.
The most ideal inch size for home users, small offices and small shops because it has an affordable price, can store recordings for approximately 30 days for 4 cameras with a resolution of 2 megapixels.
Seagate SkyHawk 2TB HDD is specially designed for CCTV cameras.
Performance for CCTV and Security Systems
HDDs for camera recording are often judged on reliability rather than speed. The Seagate SkyHawk 2TB focuses on consistent write performance to support continuous video recording. As you’ll notice, HDDs for surveillance systems typically have lower speeds than HDDs for computers.
Computer HDDs have higher speeds because they require fast reading and writing.
Is the Seagate SkyHawk 2TB Worth It?
For users seeking reliable and affordable surveillance storage, the Seagate SkyHawk 2TB remains a solid choice in 2026. Its 24/7 recording support and compatibility with modern CCTV systems make it a practical investment for security-focused applications. The Seagate SkyHawk 2TB HDD starts at $141.58.
While larger capacities may be preferable for extensive camera networks, the 2TB model offers an excellent balance between cost, reliability, and storage capacity for many home and small-business installations.
Seagate SkyHawk 2TB Surveillance HDD: Actual Product Photos and Details
The Product Box
HDDs typically don’t come in cardboard boxes, but are simply wrapped in plastic. Manufacturers save on packaging costs to keep prices lower and reduce cardboard waste. This also allows users to immediately see the HDD’s dimensions.

Top Side of HDD
The front of the HDD displays the brand and intended use. HDDs for surveillance are usually labeled “HDD for surveillance,” and HDDs for computers are labeled “HDD for computers.”
The front of the HDD also has the model number printed.

Bottom Side
The back of the HDD will show the PCB board.
Why don’t all HDDs have a cover on the back? This is because HDDs are always used indoors. They’re also mounted inside the recorder. This ensures the HDD is protected from water splashes, direct impacts, and other damage.

In this section, you can also see 6 bolt holes which function to lock the recorder.
Right and Left Sides
The left and right sides don’t have much detail. They only show three screw holes that secure the HDD when mounted on the recorder.

Front Side
Security camera HDDs use SATA connectors. On the front of the HDD, you’ll see two connectors. The smaller connector is called the SATA connector, and the larger connector is called the SATA power cable.
