Do DVR, NVR, and IP cameras have default passwords? This was a question a few days ago from a customer who forgot the password for their Hikvision DVR. However, there really isn’t a default password. Some brands may have a default password printed on the label. I then explained to them that DVRs don’t have default passwords, but I suggested using the one I provided. As it turned out, the DVR could be unlocked.
In this article, I’ll provide a list of default passwords for DVRs, NVRs, and IP cameras for almost all brands that you can use if you forget your password.
What is a Default Password?
Simply put, a default password is the login information for a device (DVR, NVR, or IP camera) that’s specified by the manufacturer. I often see the default password printed on a label attached to the device.
Hikvision default password for example:
- User: admin / Password: admin
- User: admin / Password: 12345
- User: admin / Password: admin123
- User: admin / Password: (blank password)
For security reasons, most DVRs, NVRs, and IP cameras require you to create your own password during the initial setup.
CCTV Manufacturer’s Default Passwords List (Most Popular Brands)
We have tested several of the passwords listed below. For example, some XMEye devices use the default credentials with username admin and an empty password field. However, this default does not work on some Hikvision devices.

How Do I Use The Manufacturer’s Default Password?
You can use it directly on the page including the camera device used.
For example, if you’re using a Hikvision device, you can access the login page from a web browser or from your monitor. Then, enter the default username and password listed above. If the default password doesn’t work, it means the device doesn’t support default passwords. Please contact your local security camera technician.
On newer camera models, such as EZVIZ cameras, you can use the verification code printed on the camera’s label as the password.

If you’ve forgotten your password, you can try the list above before resetting it. Most default passwords will work, but some popular brands no longer provide default passwords for security reasons.
