How to Download and Install HikCentral Lite on a Mac — As I mentioned earlier, it’s pretty rare to find security camera software that supports Mac. HikCentral is one of them, whether you’re using the Pro or Lite version. Hikvision, the developer of HikCentral, only provides HikCentral Lite for Windows users. So, if you’re using a Hikvision camera and want to connect it to your laptop, you’ll need to look for an alternative software solution.
In this article, I’ll show you how I got HikCentral Lite running on an unsupported device—my Mac.
What Is HikCentral Lite?
HikCentral is Hikvision’s device management software.
With this software, users can add and manage various Hikvision devices in one place, including IP cameras, DVRs, NVRs, access control systems, alarm systems, and more. HikCentral comes in two versions: Pro and Lite. The Pro version requires a paid license, while HikCentral Lite is available for free.
Since HikCentral Lite is free, Hikvision has placed some limitations on its use.
With HikCentral Lite, users can add up to 128 cameras, use 4 playback channels, and manage 2 access control doors. For now, HikCentral is only available for Windows, Android, and iOS, and can only be installed on these platforms.
How I Run HikCentral Lite on My Mac, Even Though It’s Not Supported
After finding out that HikCentral isn’t available for Mac, I started looking for a way to run it on my Mac anyway. I searched Google and Bing to see if there was a way to run Windows software on a Mac. After searching for “how to run Windows software on a Mac,” I finally found what I think is a really simple way to do it.
According to the information I found, Windows software can be run on a Mac using Wine Staging.
I found several people online who tried Wine Staging, and they were able to run Windows software on their Macs successfully. So, I decided to give it a try and see if I could run HikCentral Lite, which is designed for Windows, on my Mac. I’ve also written a guide on how to install HikCentral Lite on Windows, which you can read.
Step 1: Install Wine Staging
I downloaded the Wine Staging installer from this page.
The latest version is now 11.18. When I wrote this guide, Wine Staging was still on version 11.17. I believe the latest version should work just fine, and it’s probably better to use the most recent version. The Mac I use is an Intel-based Mac running macOS Ventura. The Wine Staging installer is 184 MB in size and comes with a .tar.xz extension.
Then, I double-clicked the Wine Staging installer I downloaded to extract it.

Once the file is extracted, you’ll see the Wine Staging icon. That’s basically it—pretty easy, right? You can then move Wine Staging from your Downloads folder to the Applications folder, and it will appear in Launchpad.
Step 2: Download HikCentral Lite
I opened the official HikCentral Lite download page.
The version I used when writing this guide was HikCentral Lite V1.4.0. The installer is 211.25 MB in size. Since I only need the client software, I chose to download HikCentral Lite Client. There’s no point in downloading the full HikCentral package with the server components because they aren’t supported on Mac.
I clicked Download for HikCentral Lite Client and then clicked Agree.
Step 3: Install HikCentral Lite on Mac
I’ve downloaded the HikCentral Lite Client installer. Now it’s time to see if I can use Wine Staging to install HikCentral on my Mac. Once Wine Staging is installed, Windows applications with the .exe extension will be recognized like this. You’ll see the Wine Staging icon next to the application name.
I right-clicked the installer file and opened it with Wine Staging.

After that, the installation process will begin. Just follow the on-screen instructions until the installation is complete.

After the installation was complete, I chose to launch HikCentral Lite right away.
The HikCentral icon also appeared in the Mac Dock. However, even after waiting for quite a while, HikCentral Lite wouldn’t open. So, after spending almost two hours on the whole process, I found out that HikCentral Lite couldn’t be run using Wine Staging. It seems that Wine Staging may not yet support software like HikCentral that needs to connect to a server.
It looks like Wine Staging can only run common Windows applications, such as Notepad++.
iVMS-4200 Is Still an Option for Connecting Hikvision Cameras to a Mac
For now, iVMS-4200 is still an option for Mac users who want to view live feeds from their Hikvision cameras.
For now, iVMS-4200 is the alternative to HikCentral for Mac users.
The standard features of iVMS-4200 and HikCentral are quite similar. For example, HikCentral’s live view and video playback features are also available in iVMS-4200. However, HikCentral Lite offers a much more complete set of features. The latest version of HikCentral also supports AI-powered NVRs, such as AcuSeek NVRs, while iVMS-4200 does not support them yet.
I hope Hikvision will also make HikCentral available for Mac, including both Intel-based and Apple Silicon Macs.
Update—October 2, 2026:
I also came across HikGrid, a software specifically designed for monitoring Hikvision cameras. However, when I tried to use it, I found out that HikGrid doesn’t support the Mac I’m using with macOS Ventura. If you’re using a Mac with a newer version of macOS, you might want to give HikGrid a try as an alternative software for monitoring your Hikvision cameras.

Final Thoughts
HikCentral Lite can only be run on Windows.
The HikCentral client app is also available for Android and iOS. So, if you’re using a Mac and want to install and use HikCentral Lite, you’ll still need a Windows device. At the moment, Hikvision does not provide a native version of HikCentral Lite for Mac. You can still use iVMS-4200 to connect your Hikvision cameras to your Mac, but its features are still fairly basic, mainly allowing you to view live camera feeds and play back recorded footage.
I also considered using an emulator to install HikCentral on my Mac, but I felt that it wouldn’t be very practical.
The main purpose of this article was to find out whether Wine Staging could run HikCentral Lite on my Mac. After trying it myself, however, the result was clear: HikCentral Lite still couldn’t run on my Mac. Based on the title of this article, I was hoping to find a solution to the problem. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
