I Tried Download, Install and Use the CameraFTP Software on Windows 10/11—Virtual NVR DVR Software for All Security Camera Brands

How to Use CameraFTP Software

Whenever I searched Google for security camera software, CameraFTP kept showing up in the results.

Seeing its name so often made me curious, so I decided to give it a try on my PC. According to its website, CameraFTP is a video surveillance system (VSS) that can work as a virtual NVR or DVR. This means you can connect your security cameras to CameraFTP. If your cameras support ONVIF and RTSP, you should be able to connect them to the software as well. In this article, I’ll walk you through how to use CameraFTP, from downloading and installing it to setting it up and adding your cameras.

What Is CameraFTP Software?

CameraFTP can be a great solution if you want to view your home security camera feeds directly from your PC. It offers the same key features as an NVR, including live viewing, video recording, and playback. In other words, CameraFTP can serve as a software-based alternative to a physical NVR and DVR.

CameraFTP Features:

  • Cloud Storage for Camera Recordings
  • Live Monitoring and Playback
  • Smartphone and Webcam Surveillance
  • DVR/NVR Backup and Multi-Site Monitoring
  • Time-Lapse Video Creation
  • Camera Publishing and Live Streaming
  • Access Control and User Management
  • Website Integration
  • Motion Detection
  • Multiple Camera Types
  • Remote Access

CameraFTP can be used in a variety of scenarios, such as residential properties, retail stores, offices, construction projects, and multi-location monitoring systems that require remote access and off-site storage of recordings.

How to Add a Camera to CameraFTP Software on Windows 10?

To test how to add a device to CameraFTP, I’m using an IMOU camera that supports ONVIF and RTSP. You can also use an IP camera from another brand, as long as it supports ONVIF and RTSP.

I clicked the Add button to add a camera.

Adding an IP Camera to the CameraFTP Software

There are three options to choose from:

  • IP Camera
  • Webcam / Video Capture Card
  • Screen Recording with Audio

I selected IP Camera because I want to connect my IMOU camera to the CameraFTP software.

Connecting an IP Camera to CameraFTP Software

Note: Make sure your camera is connected to the same local network (LAN) as your PC. CameraFTP only works with IP cameras. If you’re using an analog camera, you’ll need to connect it to a DVR first, as you’ll be using the DVR’s RTSP stream to connect it to CameraFTP.

Click Find IP Camera in Local Network to search for cameras on your local network. A page will appear showing a search for IP cameras on your network. Just wait for the scan to finish.

Select the detected camera.

Click Next.

Enter the username and password for your camera.

Click Next.

Next, you’ll see a list of RTSP URLs to choose from. The URL you select determines the video resolution displayed in CameraFTP. I’m using the 1920 × 1080 resolution for this guide. Once you’ve selected your preferred option, click Next to continue.

Note: If your network connection is unstable or slow, you can choose a lower resolution for smoother video streaming.

Click OK to confirm.

You’ll then be taken to the camera settings page. Just click Finish to continue.

If everything works, the camera feed will appear on the dashboard. Below is a screenshot of my IMOU camera connected to CameraFTP.
