Can the IP address of a Verkada camera be set to static? Yes, it can. I’ve set the IP address of a Verkada camera to static before, and it was very easy. Generally, Verkada cameras do not have a default IP address. The IP address of a Verkada camera is assigned by the router’s DHCP. However, users have the option to change the IP address after the camera has been successfully activated and connected to Verkada Command.
If you want to change the IP address of your Verkada camera but don’t know how, you can follow the guide I’ve written here.
What Are the Benefits of Changing the Vekada Camera’s IP Address from DHCP to Static?
Essentially, Verkada cameras are designed to connect directly to the Verkada Command platform.
Therefore, the company does not manufacture video recorders such as DVRs and NVRs, which are typically provided by other brands like Hikvision and Dahua. Instead, Verkada cameras use a cloud-based system. Each camera connects to Verkada’s cloud service for storing recordings, playback, and camera settings. If you’re skeptical, you can visit Verkada’s product page, which only lists cameras and does not feature video recorders like NVRs or DVRs.
The advantage of setting the camera’s IP address to static is that it makes management over the local network easier. Since each camera has a designated IP address, you can easily identify them—for example, the camera with IP address A is installed on the front yard of the house.
How to Change the IP Address of a Verkada Camera to a Static Address
Because it is directly connected to the cloud, you can only change the IP address of a Verkada camera from the Verkada Command cloud platform. If you do not yet have a Verkada Command account, you will not be able to set the camera to a static IP address.
Below is the method I use to set the Verkada camera’s IP address to static on the Verkada Command page.
Open the link https://command.verkada.com/login.

Log in to your Verkada Command account using your registered email address. You must have an account to change and manage your Verkada camera’s IP address.
Select All Products.

Tap Camera.

Select the camera whose IP address will be changed.

Tap Settings.

Select the Device tab.

On the IP Camera tab, change the Automatic (DHCP) mode to Static. Change the IP address as needed and tap the Save button to save the settings.

Conclusion
How, quite easy, right?
Please note that changing the IP address on a Verkada camera may cause the camera to fail to connect to the cloud. If this happens, you can reset the camera or reset the IP settings to Automatic (DHCP) mode. Verkada doesn’t provide a recorder like a DVR/NVR. Instead, they provide a device called the Verkada Command Connector, which works similarly to a recorder, but with more advanced features.
