SmartVision Video Surveillance Software for PC: Download, Setup, Add Camera & Live View

SmartVision Video Surveillance Software

If you need an easy way to monitor your IP cameras from a Windows computer without an NVR/DVR, SmartVision CCTV Camera Software provides a convenient solution for viewing live video. Whether you’re a homeowner, small business owner, or security system installer, this software lets you access two or more compatible IP cameras from a single interface, just like you would on an NVR or DVR.

This guide, written by me based on my first-hand experience, will explain about SmartVision CCTV Camera Software, including its features, system requirements, download process, installation, and initial setup.

What Is SmartVision CCTV Camera Software?

SmartVision CCTV Camera Software is a desktop surveillance application designed to help users monitor and manage compatible CCTV security systems. Rather than relying solely on mobile devices, the software provides users with a larger screen and additional management tools that enhance daily monitoring tasks.

Depending on the IP camera model you have, SmartVision can provide access to:

  • Live camera monitoring
  • Video playback
  • Device management
  • Motion event review
  • User account management
  • Snapshot capture
  • Video recording
  • Multi-camera viewing

Many security professionals use desktop surveillance software because it offers greater control when monitoring multiple cameras simultaneously.

SmartVision has an iconic logo in my opinion, namely a police dog.

SmartVision CCTV Camera Software Download

When downloading surveillance software, always use the version recommended by your device manufacturer or distributor. This helps reduce compatibility issues and lowers the risk of installing modified or outdated software.

Please click the link to download the SmartVision installation file.

The SmartVision installation file for my Windows 11 computer that I downloaded was quite large, at 489 MB. Because my internet connection was too slow, it took me a long time to download, about 35 minutes.

What’s Next?

After downloading SmartVision CCTV Camera Software, the next step is installing the software and configuring it to communicate with your IP cameras.

The following section explains the installation process step by step, followed by detailed instructions for adding devices, configuring live view, enabling remote access, and resolving common connection issues.

How to Install SmartVision CCTV Camera Software on Windows?

After downloading the SmartVision CCTV software installer, the next step is to install the software on your Windows computer. The installation process is straightforward and usually takes only a few minutes.

Step 1: Locate the Installer

Navigate to the folder where the SmartVision installation file was downloaded. In most cases, the installer is located in the Downloads folder.

The installation file is provided as an .EXE archive, so you don’t need to extract it.

Installing SmartVision VMS Software on Windows

Step 2: Run the Installer

Double-click the installation file.

If Windows displays a User Account Control (UAC) prompt, click Yes to allow the installer to make changes to your computer.

Step 3: Welcome Installing Page

In this step, you just click the Next button.

Step 4: License Agreement

This is where you agree to the terms and conditions for using Smart Vision VMS. If you agree, check the “I accept the agreement” box and click “Next.”

If you wish to cancel the installation process, click “Cancel.”

Step 5: Select Destination Location

In this step, please select the location where you want to install the application.

Just like for other CCTV camera software, I always choose the installation location at C:\Program Files\SmartVision or C:\SmartVision. Click Next.

Step 6: Select Star Menu Folder

Next, please give the application a name.

This name will be the application’s identifier and will display it on the desktop. For me, the system name, Smart Vision, is appropriate. Click the Next button to proceed.

Step 7: Ready to Install

This step displays all the settings you specified earlier, including the file destination and application name.

If everything is correct, click the Install button.

Step 8: Installation Progress

The installation process will begin.

This process is automatic. You don’t need to do anything else. Once the process is complete, the SmartVision software homepage will appear. No username or password is required to open the software.

And this is the SmartVision CCTV software dashboard page.

SmartVision Interface Overview

My first impression when I saw the SmartVision software interface was that it resembled an NVR/DVR. After all, CCTV camera software is designed to replace physical recording devices.

Immediately visible are 4 windows for the camera.

In the upper left corner, you’ll see the Main, Layout, and About menus. Below them is a row of menus with icons. Hovering the cursor over one of the icons will display the name of that menu, such as:

  • Devices
  • Events
  • Alert
  • Face Recognition
  • Cars
  • Settings

Meanwhile, in the right corner, you can see a row that seems to have a function to select the layout in the main display.

How

Adding IP Cameras to SmartVision VMS CCTV Software

To avoid this post feeling like it’s stalling, I’ll continue with a guide on adding an IP camera to SmartVision VMS. Please follow the steps below. There are several ways to add a device, but to keep this guide brief, I’ll use the ONVIF method. This method is easier than other manual methods.

Before You Begin

  • The camera and computer are on the same network.
  • The camera’s ONVIF is enabled.
  • You know the camera password and username.

The IP camera I’m using in this guide is an Imou camera with ONVIF capabilities. If you have another ONVIF-enabled camera, you can use that.

Adding an IP Camera to SmartVision VMS

Open SmartVision VMS and select the Device menu.

Adding an IP Camera to SmartVision VMS

A window like this will appear. Here, click the menu with the magnifying glass icon to automatically search for cameras.

Then the search process window appears.

If the camera is found, it will appear as shown in the image below. At this stage, you can make a few settings, most notably providing a password. For Imou cameras, the default password is the security code printed on the label. Please adjust the password according to the IP camera you are using.

If everything feels right, click the Apply button to save.

Then a brief process like this will appear.

The data for the camera you added will then be displayed. Ensure the camera password you entered is correct. If incorrect, the screen will display “No video stream: CCTVManuals.com.”

Camera not Showing in SmartVision VMS

If the password and username you entered are correct, a live view of the IP camera connected to the SmartVision CCTV software will appear. Below is an example of an Imou camera successfully added to this software.

Is Smart Vision free?

Yes, this software is free.

You can download, install, and use it locally on your Windows PC. This free version does not use cloud services.

Can I use SmartVision on Mac?

No.

Currently, the developer only provides SmartVision for Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7. It also provides a selection of apps for mobile phones.

Final Thoughts

If you don’t have a recorder such as an NVR or DVR, you can use SmartVision VMS software to view your IP camera feeds on a larger screen, such as a computer or laptop. SmartVision supports IP cameras from almost all brands that are ONVIF-compatible. So, regardless of the brand you use, as long as your cameras support ONVIF, you can connect them to SmartVision VMS and monitor all your cameras from a single screen.

It’s getting late, so I’ll wrap up this post here. I hope you found it helpful! If you have any questions, just leave a comment below.
