This article is a continuation of my previous article on how to download and install the iVMS-4200. The reason I didn’t merge this article with the previous one is because I thought creating a new article would provide a more detailed explanation of how to prepare the iVMS-4200 on a Mac before use. One of the initial settings before using the iVMS-4200 is creating an account. This account is used to log in to the dashboard, where you can configure the device and view the live view from the Hikvision camera.
If you’re just starting out using iVMS-4200 on your Mac, this article will be a great resource. I wrote it based on my personal experience.
What You Need to Prepare to Create an iVMS-4200 Account?
You don’t need any special data to create an administrator account on iVMS-4200.
The iVMS-4200 is a software application used on a local network and requires virtually no internet connection. Internet access is required if you’re using the iVMS-4200 with a cloud account, such as a Hik-Connect account. However, if you simply want to view the camera’s display on a local network, the camera and your laptop or computer simply need to be on the same network.
You do not need a mobile number or email to create an iVMS-4200 account.
How to Register an Administrator Account in iVMS 4200?
Follow these simple steps to create an administrator account on iVMS-4200. Since this is a continuation of the previous article, please note that this is the iVMS-4200 software on my MacBook.
Launch the software after installation. When opening it for the first time, the registration window will appear automatically.

The administrator account registration window appears.

Enter the Superuser name, Password, and Confirm Password. Make sure the password indicator is green, indicating the password is very secure.
If you have, click the Register button.

The initialization process will then appear. Wait for it to complete. Once complete, users will be redirected to the IVMS 4200 software dashboard. Users can use the IVMS 4200 software to view live footage, playback, and configure other settings on their Hikvision CCTV cameras.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I change the administrator username later?
Some versions of iVMS 4200 do not allow changing the original Super User name after registration. If you need a different administrator account, create a new administrator user from the User Management section.
What happens if I forget the administrator password?
The software does not always provide a simple password recovery option. Depending on the version, you may need to reset the software or reinstall it. Keep your administrator password stored safely.
Can I create multiple administrator accounts?
Yes. After logging in with the Super User account, you can create additional administrator accounts and assign permissions based on your organization’s needs.
Is the administrator account the same as the camera password?
No.
The administrator account controls access to the iVMS 4200 software itself. Your cameras, DVR, or NVR each have their own device login credentials.
Final Thoughts
Registering an administrator account is the first and most important step when using iVMS 4200. A properly configured Super User account allows you to manage devices, monitor live video, review recordings, and control user permissions from one centralized application.
By following the steps in this guide and using a strong password, you can improve both the security and reliability of your surveillance system from the very beginning.
