I Changed the VIGI Camera’s IP Address from DHCP to Static via a Browser to Make It Easier to Identify

VIGI Camera IP Static Settings

By default, VIGI IP cameras use the DHCP system. The camera will automatically obtain an IP address assigned by the router. With this system, there is a risk that the VIGI camera’s IP address may change on its own. In my experience, when this happens, the VIGI camera will lose its connection when connected to another device, such as an NVR, because the previously detected IP address differs from the new one.

In this post, I’ll explain how to change the IP address of a VIGI camera from DHCP to static.

With a Static IP Address, Cameras Are Easy to Identify

One of the advantages of using a static IP address on a camera is that it’s easier to identify.

Since the IP address has been configured, you can easily access the IP address of the camera you want. Just imagine if the camera’s IP address were still using DHCP—you’d definitely have a hard time, and finding the IP address would feel like guessing every day. For example, today the camera might be using the IP address 192.168.1.10. Tomorrow, it could be using the IP address 192.168.1.20.

How I Changed the VIGI Camera’s IP Address from DHCP to Static

The easiest way—based on my experience—to change the IP address of my VIGI camera is to access the camera’s default IP address through a web browser. Then, open the camera’s settings.

Below are the steps I followed.

Access the VIGI camera default IP address e.g. 192.168.1.130 in a web browser.

A warning page like this will then appear. Click the Advanced button.

Tap on Proceed 192.168.1.130 (Unsafe).

Log in using your camera’s username and password to open the TP-Link VIGI camera’s web interface.

You’ll be redirected to the live view page. Then tap the Settings menu.

Select the Network Settings menu.

Step 6 – Select Connect.

On the right is a list of the current IP addresses of the VIGI cameras. Change the mode from Dynamic IP to Static IP.

Set the new IP address as needed and tap the Save button below to save the settings.

Another Way to Set a Static IP for a VIGI Camera Using the VIGI Security Manager Software

Open the VIGI Security Manager software.

Select Settings > Device List. Then tap More on one of the cameras and select Set Network.

Next, select Network Settings > Connections. In the Mode section, change the setting from Dynamic IP to Static IP.

Enter the new IP address as needed. Once done, tap the Save button to save the settings.

Conclusion

Setting the IP address of the VIGI camera can be done by opening the camera via a web browser. Setting a static IP address on your VIGI camera allows you to connect the camera to a different IP address. For example, if your VIGI camera’s IP address is 192.168.1.10, you can change it to another segment, such as 192.168.1.20, to connect to a recording device or NVR with the same IP address.
