How to Add Any WiFi IP Camera to SecuritySpy

How to Add a WiFi IP Camera to SecuritySpy Software—In addition to Blue Iris and iSpy, SecuritySpy is another security camera monitoring app you can try before deciding to purchase a license or subscription. These three applications offer many similar features but differ in terms of user interface and platform support. SecuritySpy supports nearly all popular camera brands currently on the market, including Reolink, TP-Link Tapo, EZVIZ, Hikvision, Dahua, and other devices that comply with the ONVIF standard.

In this guide I will give you direct information on how to connect a WiFi IP camera to SecuritySpy.

How Do I Download and Install SecuritySpy on a Mac?

To use SecuritySpy, you’ll need to download and install it on your Mac.

SecuritySpy supports a wide range of Mac devices. When I first wrote this guide, I was using a 2013 MacBook Pro running macOS Catalina. I’ve since upgraded it to macOS Ventura using OpenCore Legacy Patcher. If you’re using an older Mac that no longer officially supports the latest macOS versions, you can check out my guide on how to install macOS on an unsupported Mac.

Alright, let’s walk through how to download and install SecuritySpy on your Mac.

Download SecuritySpy

First, visit the official SecuritySpy website to download the installer.

Note: I always recommend downloading software directly from the official website to ensure you get the original, unmodified version.

On the website, click the Download menu.

Download SecuritySpy for Mac

Click Download SecuritySpy to download the software.

Enter your email address to download SecuritySpy. Alternatively, you can download SecuritySpy without entering your email address.

The installer will start downloading shortly. The SecuritySpy installation file is around 119 MB, so just wait for the download to finish before moving on to the next step.

Install SecuritySpy

Now that the installer has finished downloading, it’s time to install SecuritySpy on your Mac.

It’s that simple!

Double-click the installer file you just downloaded to open it.

Since SecuritySpy comes in a .dmg file, installing it is pretty straightforward. Just open the downloaded file, then drag and drop the SecuritySpy app into your Applications folder. Unlike a .pkg installer, this method doesn’t require you to go through a traditional installation wizard.

Installing SecuritySpy on a Mac

Add WiFi IP Cameras to SecuritySpy

In this guide, the WiFi IP camera I am using is the IMOU brand.

The ONVIF feature is enabled by default on IMOU cameras, so you don’t need to enable it manually. However, if you’re using a different camera brand, such as EZVIZ, you may need to manually enable ONVIF through the EZVIZ app before adding the camera to SecuritySpy.

Open SecuritySpy on your Mac.

Click the + button to start the process of adding a camera.

You’ll then see a list of cameras connected via ONVIF. The camera I’m using is connected under the name LC-IPC A22E. If your camera is not detected, make sure that ONVIF is enabled according to your camera manufacturer’s instructions. Click on the detected camera.

Next, the camera settings window will appear. In this step, simply enter your password and username. Click the Save button to save the settings. Below are the details of the filling I did.

  • Address: Automatically filled when adding a camera using the ONVIF method
  • HTTP Port: Empty
  • RTSP Port: Empty
  • Username: Your camera login username
  • Password: Your camera login password (if using IMOU camera WiFi, the default password of IMOU camera is Safety Code)
  • Profile: ONVIF
  • Format: RTSP

If the setup is successful, the camera will be online.

Below is a live view of the IMOU WiFi IP camera successfully connected to the SecuritySpy software on a Mac.
