I’ve come across an app called CCTV Super Password that claims to reset passwords for various security camera brands in just a few minutes. Out of curiosity, I decided to give it a try myself. If it really works as claimed, I might no longer need to rely on multiple tools to reset forgotten passwords for security devices like NVRs, DVRs, and IP cameras.
In this article, I’ll walk you through how I used CCTV Super Password to reset the password on my Hikvision DVR.
Download and Install the CCTV Super Password App
I checked the Google Play Store listing and found that CCTV Super Password was developed by Bruce Nguyen and was first published on October 11, 2014. The app is around 13 MB in size and was last updated on August 2, 2026. Since I don’t use an iPhone, I haven’t been able to confirm whether it’s also available for iOS.
How to Install CCTV Super Password on Android
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Type CCTV Super Password in the search bar. Look for the app with a padlock icon on a red background.
- Tap Install and wait for the installation to finish.
The installation will run automatically. Just wait for it to finish, and you’ll be ready to use the app.

How I Use the CCTV Super Password App to Reset the Password on a Hikvision DVR
To test the app, I’ll try using it to reset the password on my Hikvision DVR. On the CCTV Super Password app’s home screen, I selected Hikvision because I wanted to reset the password on my Hikvision DVR. The app then displayed a page with several reset methods and the following information:
- Reset with Serial Number
- Reset with XML File
I opened the Reset with XML File method, but it only provided instructions on how to use SADP to obtain the XML file.
I tried the Reset with Serial Number method.
I was asked to enter my DVR’s serial number to generate a password reset code. Once the code was generated, I tried using it as the password for my DVR, but it didn’t work at all, and I still couldn’t access the device.

After doing some further research, I found that this method only works with Hikvision DVRs and NVRs running firmware version 3 or earlier. Most users have since moved on to firmware version 4, which means this older reset method may no longer work for many devices.
So, it looks like this app can no longer reset passwords on Hikvision devices.
Can the Super Password CCTV App Reset Passwords for DVRs and NVRs Other Than Hikvision?
I didn’t have high hopes for the CCTV Super Password app.
Most security camera devices now run newer firmware versions, which is unfortunate because CCTV Super Password may no longer support them. As a result, an app that once claimed to reset passwords in just a few minutes now mainly provides instructions on how to reset them instead.
For Hikvision devices, you can reset the password using the Hik-Partner Pro app or the SADP Tool.
I actually used CCTV Super Password a few years ago, back in 2022, to reset the password on my Hikvision DVR, and it worked. However, when I tried using the app again in 2026, I could no longer reset the DVR’s password because the device was running newer firmware that the app no longer supports.
Final Thoughts
That’s my review of the CCTV Super Password app.
This app claims to reset passwords for various security camera brands, but after testing it myself, I found that it doesn’t actually do that. Instead, it mainly provides information and instructions on how to reset passwords rather than performing the reset process itself.
For Hikvision devices, password resets can currently be done using SADP Tool or Hik-Partner Pro. For Dahua devices, you can use DoLynk Care or press the physical reset button on the device’s circuit board, if one is available.
If you’d like to try the app yourself, feel free to download it.
