My Easy Guide How to Connect Dahua DVR/NVR to SmartPSS Lite on PC

How to Connect Dahua DVR/NVR to SmartPSS Lite

How to connect a Dahua DVR/NVR to SmartPSS Lite – The latest version of SmartPSS software, SmartPSS Lite, makes it easier for users to connect Dahua DVRs or NVRs. Several methods are available: IP/Domain Name, SN, and Auto Register. In my daily work, I prefer adding DVRs/NVRs using the second method, which involves entering the SN or Serial Number. This method is easier than the others.

In this guide you will see the step by step process I took to connect my Dahua DVR/NVR to SmartPSS Lite software in less than 10 minutes.

What Is SmartPSS Lite?

SmartPSS Lite, formerly known as SmartPSS without Lite, is a desktop application that allows users to manage and monitor Dahua security devices from a Windows computer. The application supports DVRs, NVRs, IP cameras, live viewing, playback, and device management from a single interface. Is SmartPSS Lite available for Mac? Unfortunately, no.

There may be blogs out there that suggest downloading this software for Mac, but I don’t use them due to security concerns on my Mac laptop.

How to Connect a Dahua DVR/NVR to SmartPSS Lite?

Previously I mentioned above that there are three methods to connect or add Dahua DVR/NVR devices to SmartPSS Lite software, namely with IP/Domain Name, SN and Auto Register.

  • IP/Domain Name – Add devices locally using the IP address of a known DVR/NVR.
  • SN – Add a device by entering the device serial number.
  • Auto Register – Add devices using a unique ID generated in the DVR/NVR. You’ll need additional software, DSS Server.

Of the three methods above, the second one is the one I always use because it’s so easy. Let me show you how to add a Dahua DVR/NVR device to SmartPSS Lite using its serial number.

Before that, make sure of the following things:

  • DVR/NVR is connected to the internet with P2P access enabled.
  • Password and username

Add a Dahua DVR/NVR to SmartPSS Lite Using Serial Number (SN)

Open SmartPSS Lite on your computer. Then select Devices.

On the Devices page, click the Add button to add a Dahua DVR/NVR device.

Column filling guide:

  • Device Name: You can fill in this column with any name, for example here I filled it in with the name Office.
  • SN: Fill in the DVR/NVR SN number.
  • User Name: User name to log in to the device.
  • Password: Device password.

For the results of filling in the columns, you can see the image below.

Click the Add button to save.

If the entered data is correct, it will appear in the Online Status. However, if the Status still shows as online, there is an error in the SN, Username, and Password.

You’ll then be able to see the live camera view from the DVR or NVR that was successfully added to SmartPSS Lite. For more information, you can read how to use SmartPSS Lite on PC.

My Experience Connecting Dahua Devices to SmartPSS Lite

In most installations, connecting a Dahua DVR or NVR to SmartPSS Lite takes only a few minutes when the IP address and login credentials are correct.

The most common issue I encountered was an incorrect network configuration or using the wrong device password. For local networks, adding devices via IP address is usually the quickest and most reliable method. For remote monitoring, or if the DVR/NVR is already online and accessible using the DMSS application, adding devices by SN is the easiest option.

Is SmartPSS Lite Free To Use?

Yes, it’s free. Users can use SmartPSS Lite at no additional cost.

Developed by Dahua, this CCTV software provides a centralized platform for monitoring and managing security devices. One of its key advantages is the ability to view continuous live camera feeds. This differs from some other video management applications, such as iVMS-4200, which imposes a five-minute time limit.

Due to ONVIF support, Dahua NVRs and DVRs can also be connected to other CCTV software such as Blue Iris and iSpy Agent DVR.

Conclusion

Connecting a Dahua DVR or NVR to SmartPSS Lite is a straightforward process. Once the recorder is properly connected to the network, you simply add the device through Device Management, enter the correct credentials, and verify that the status shows Online. By following the steps in this guide, you can quickly access live video, playback recordings, and manage your Dahua surveillance system directly from your PC.
