Tiandy DVR/NVR and IP camera password reset – Some time ago, a community member asked me how to reset a Tiandy password. Unlike Hikvision cameras, Tiandy devices do not support direct manual password resets. Tiandy also does not provide a public password reset tool. In most cases, users need to contact Tiandy technical support through WhatsApp to recover or reset the password. Because of this limitation, I have not yet offered installation services for Tiandy cameras.
The good news is, I already have Tiandy’s technical support WhatsApp number. In this guide, I’ve tried to provide as comprehensive a guide as possible on how to reset the password for a Tiandy CCTV camera.
Why Should you Reset the DVR/NVR and IP Camera Password?
I once reset the password at an office that used Tiandy CCTV cameras. I didn’t install the CCTV cameras. The company contacted me because the previous technician hadn’t left a password record and couldn’t be reached. If not changed, Tiandy devices have a default password of 1111.
From this experience, the reason for resetting the Tiandy password is because:
- Forgot device password
- Previous technician could not be contacted
- User cannot open menu on DVR/NVR
How to Reset Tiandy Password Based on My Personal Experience
To reset the password for Tiandy NVR and IP cameras, you’ll need the SearchConfig Tool software. You can download it from this link. This software is available for Windows and Mac OS.
Next, open your SearchConfig Tool software.
The dashboard will display a list of devices and their IP addresses. Here, I’ve connected the Tiandy NVR, whose password I’ll reset. For your information, the SearchConfig Tool is a tool provided by Tiandy that can be used to manage devices, such as detecting IP addresses, changing IP addresses, and resetting device passwords.
Mark the small box on the device and click the Reset Password menu.
Then, in the Get Security Code column, type “Manual.” Click the Key Export button to save the file to your computer.
Send the code to the Tiandy technical support WhatsApp number in your area. This code will then be used to generate an 8-digit reset code. You can also try contacting the technical support WhatsApp number I called 0852-6110-1596.
Enter the code in the Security Code field. Also, fill in the New Password field with your new password. Click the Reset button to save the process and a notification appears saying Password set Successfully.
Click the OK button to finish the password reset process.
What Is the Difference Between Password Reset and Restoring to Default?
First I will explain about the Restore Default menu.
Tiandy’s Restore Default menu allows you to restore devices (NVRs and IP cameras) to their original or factory settings. However, to use this menu, you must know the device’s password. Meanwhile, the Reset Password menu is used to reset the device password due to forgetting it.
So, if you forget your password, use the Reset Password menu, not Restore Default.
Final Thoughts
Resetting a forgotten Tiandy NVR or IP camera password is different from many other CCTV brands. Because Tiandy prioritizes security, users often need assistance from technical support to complete the recovery process. However, from a CCTV technician’s perspective, the process can be time-consuming and inconvenient. In some cases, Tiandy technical support may also take a long time to respond.
